Following a contentious Senate Health Committee hearing on Capitol Hill on Wednesday, President Trump’s nominee for Surgeon General, Dr. Casey Means, is drawing criticism from members of the medical community who question her qualifications for the position. Among the critics is Dr. Terry Simpson, a California-based board-certified surgeon and specialist in Culinary Medicine, who shared his concerns in a TikTok video that has since gained significant attention online.
As you can see in the video, Dr. Simpson was not okay with the nominee and challenged Means’ medical background and experience, stating that she is not a fit candidate for such an important position in the country, mentioning the following: “She didn’t finish a surgical residency; she dropped out. She never had a meaningful clinical practice. She has not done any serious clinical research whatsoever.“
Simpson also criticized Means’s previous statements on vaccines and public health. According to The New York Times, the wellness influencer has made controversial assertions implying that childhood vaccinations could contribute to declining health. Simpson argued that appointing a Surgeon General who promotes fear and “has no stake other than bringing back infectious disease” could further erode public confidence in federal health guidance.
“She is another parody of the kind of individuals presented by the current Trump administration, attempting to impose their own version of health care on the American people,” he commented. Sadly, many other TikTok users echoed the Doctor’s thoughts, as they believe that the current administration is more than questionable.
Several People Agree that Means Isn’t Qualified for the Job
Several TikTokers reacted to the doctor’s video, with some expressing concern about Means, and even a few medical professionals chimed in, claiming that those at the top of the health department should be prepared enough, not someone with such a controversial background as Means.
“Last thing USA needs…more incompetence,” commented one TikTok user.
“Congress needs to wake up and create actual required job qualifications to be considered for these positions,” said another user.
However, the whole situation also encouraged people to complain about how Trump has been choosing those in his administration, including the new Surgeon General nominee.
“The only qualifications necessary for this administration are a total lack of any qualifications,” commented one TikToker.
In the end, it seems that people are not happy about Trump’s nominee, and with good reason, according to several TikTokers, whether or not they have a medical background. The one at the Surgeon General seat should be as prepared as possible, and set an example, not the other way around.
