A Muslim man who organized a Taraweeh prayer gathering in Times Square, New York, recently encountered an angry passerby who appeared to oppose his faith. The man had promoted the voluntary Ramadan night prayer on social media beforehand. Despite receiving online criticism and warnings from individuals threatening to disrupt the event, many participants still gathered in Times Square to join him in prayer as planned. Naturally, this led to a heated online debate, with some people taking different sides and sharing their opinions.
It remains unclear whether the confrontation occurred before or after the prayers. However, while he was recording, an irate New Yorker approached him and began making hostile remarks about Muslims. In the short video shared on TikTok, the individual can be heard loudly accusing Muslims of being pedophiles, hating dogs, and not respecting women.
The Muslim man appeared confused by the comments about dogs and calmly asked, “Who hates dogs?” To make his point, he blew a kiss toward a few dogs nearby that were on leashes with their owners, signaling that the accusation was unfounded. Nevertheless, the New Yorker persisted, repeatedly questioning him about his belief in Sharia law and accusing him of avoiding the questions when he didn’t respond.
After briefly exchanging words with another passerby, the man ultimately chose to walk away, refusing to escalate an already tense encounter. Still, this situation led to a heated debate in the comments on the TikTok video, as several people took sides to defend OP. In contrast, others argued that what the New Yorker had done was okay and, to an extent, justified.
TikTok Debate Ignites After Confrontation Video
The first side of the debate jumped to OP’s defense, claiming that he had the right to pray and that the New Yorker was in the wrong for acting like that, even shaming the irate individual for his deplorable behavior.
“People have no respect, man.”
Several others also focused on the accusations by the man, as they seemed unfounded and were extremely aggressive toward the Muslim man.
“Epstein files are out, and Muslims are still called pedophiles.. What?”
Yet, some other people took a different side and decided to defend the New Yorker, claiming he also had a right to complain and even “attack” the Muslim.
“Thank you, my true fellow New Yorker.”
In the end, the debate kept going, and while everyone had their point of view, the majority decided to defend OP, who, according to them, did nothing wrong and was just a victim of harassment.
