Many people often overlook that the First Amendment protects free expression for everyone, regardless of political affiliation. While extremists exist on both sides, the principle of free speech must still be upheld. Recently, in Rochester, New York, two women identifying with the political Left allegedly vandalized a man’s flag with scissors, claiming it “bothered them.”
In a viral TikTok video, the man whose flags were taken down spoke up about the injustice. “We never come to your protests, and we never cut down anything,” he explained. Next to him was one woman holding a pair of scissors while another man struggled to take it from her before more damage was done. However, the Karen suddenly turned it into a harassment issue. “Get his hands off me,” she whined, and the man behind the camera urged the other man to release the scissors.
The two argued back and forth with each making their own claim. “Listen, man, you don’t see anything wrong going on around you? I’m Black, and I can see it. How dumb can you be?” the man said, defending his political belief. The woman retorted that the issue was that people were being pulled out of their houses, but the man was convinced that all the President was doing was for the sake of the “American citizens, the taxpayers.”
After a while, two other women joined the leftist woman, and they tried to take down the other flags that the man had put up while screaming, “Don’t touch me. Don’t touch my body!”
“We are mad at Nazis,” the leftist woman screamed when the owner of the flags accused them of being mad at Republicans. “Don’t touch my flag,” the man continued to say when the other two women kept struggling with the man to take down the flags that were still up. “You’re touching us. You grabbed me,” the woman accused as they walked away.
Republicans were angered by the women’s behavior towards the man over his flags. “These people are the definition of unhinged,” one user wrote in the comments. “But if they want to put their Palestine, rainbow, trans flags up, that’s ok, right?! And no one can come tear their [expletive] down right?! Bunch of hypocrites,” another chimed in. “Wow, they want to censor him to put their flag up. They can’t see they are the oppressors of free speech,” a second one said.
Many people shared the sentiment. “The hypocrisy is laughable and comical at this point. I do not understand how people get caught harassing and assaulting somebody and then turn around like they’re the victim. These women need to get a life,” one noted. “Why can’t they keep their hands to themselves? My preschoolers learned this,” someone wrote. “Personal Property can be defended. This was an assault,” a TikToker stated. “They always play the victim, but then continue to act like they can play the same game,” another wrote.
The backlash kept coming. “Literally ashamed to be white because of white liberals. They are the downfall of America,” one user wrote. “They are wrong. Freedom of speech goes both ways,” another wrote. “They really breathe audacity,” a TikToker noted. “Calling a Black man a Nazi is wild work,” someone said. “Anyone offended by the American flag needs to find another country to live in,” a last user stated.
Although political divisions are more intense than ever, the situation in New York illustrates how matters are spiraling out of control.
