There is an unspoken bond of trust between teachers and students. Students look to their teachers for guidance, safety, and reassurance, believing the classroom should be a place where they are protected from harm. That is how it is meant to be. When that trust is violated, the impact reaches far beyond those directly involved, unsettling the entire community. Something of that nature unfolded in California this week.
A viral video shows Casey Snyder walking around a classroom. According to the text overlaid on the clip, Snyder previously taught social science and coached basketball at Corcoran High School in California. In the footage, he is seen holding a clipboard and a pen while moving between rows of desks.
At first, nothing appears unusual. But on closer inspection, the clipboard does not seem to be merely for classroom use. Snyder appears to place what appears to be a phone on top of it, allegedly taking photos or recording students without their knowledge. The clip was posted on social media, where the person sharing it identified Snyder by name and noted that he taught freshmen and sophomores in addition to coaching basketball at the school.
The allegations become even more disturbing. According to the documents, at one point in the video, Snyder allegedly moves his phone so that the camera lens is visible above the clipboard. He then appears to point it directly at a female student’s chest while repeatedly looking in that direction and adjusting his phone.
When confronted and asked what he had been doing at that moment, Snyder claimed he was “probably still texting, or scrolling on Instagram.” He was reportedly advised that, if Instagram activity could support his explanation, he could submit it as evidence. According to the documents, he did not respond.
The video sparked outrage on social media, with many users expressing disgust and calling for Snyder to be fired. Several commenters argued that people who behave this way should not be allowed around children. Others said incidents like this seem increasingly common and questioned whether any profession is truly safe from predatory behavior. At the same time, many praised the student who noticed what was happening and had the presence of mind to record it.
California Redditors React to The Disturbing Situation
The clip sparked widespread outrage online, with many viewers disturbed by what they witnessed.
“So unbelievably conspicuous and gross. Imagine being a girl in class, and some guy in a position of authority is actively hovering around you, staring and perving out while recording you.”
Others reflected on how disturbingly common these situations can feel.
“One of the worst parts of growing up has been finding out how many creeps there really are.”
People believe that a classroom should be one of the few places where students feel completely safe, never forced to glance over their shoulder. But between what appears in these documents and what is shown in that video, it is clear that trust was shattered.
