New York City emergency services respond to millions of calls each year, with estimates ranging from 9 to 10 million. While many of these incidents involve genuine emergencies, others stem from simple misunderstandings. A recent viral video underscored this reality, showing five NYPD officers responding to a reported disturbance—only to discover that the noise was coming from a neighbor watching a TV show at an excessive volume.

Footage captured by a neighbor’s Ring camera shows five uniformed NYPD officers standing outside a woman’s apartment. After they knock, the resident can be heard from inside saying, “Hello?” As one officer leans against the doorway while chewing gum, she replies in a formal tone: “Police. Can you please open the door so we can speak with you?”

The resident asks, “What for?” The officer replies, “We’ve been getting reports of a lot of commotion. We just want to make sure you guys are okay. We heard yelling.” Another officer adds, “Screaming.” The twist is quickly revealed when the woman explains, “We’re not screaming. We’re watching Baddies.” Smiling, one of the officers asks, “Is that a movie?” before the entire squad bursts into laughter.

As expected, the viral video left many netizens amused, prompting viewers to flood the comments with their reactions. On Reddit, one commenter called it a “reasonable misunderstanding lol,” while another explained the show’s premise, writing, “It’s a trashy show where the girls just on there to beat each other. It’s stemmed from the bad girls club, but BGC was infinitely less trash (esp when it first started in the early 2000s).”

Meanwhile, on TikTok, one user commented, “Girl, how loud was your TV?” while another added, “The female officer knew what you were talking about.”

Thankfully, the callout turned out to be a simple misunderstanding, and no one faced any charges. Still, one thing is clear: it might be worth turning down the TV a bit—for the sake of the neighbors.
