Godzilla is back, and things aren’t looking particularly good for Japan. The first trailer for Godzilla Minus Zero has officially arrived, bringing the Oscar-winning monster roaring back to the big screen with an ominous warning that “everything ends here.”
Written and directed once again by Takashi Yamazaki, Godzilla Minus Zero picks up in 1949, two years after the events of Godzilla Minus One. Ryunosuke Kamiki and Minami Hamabe return as Koichi and Noriko Shikishima, with the sequel following Japan’s fragile recovery as Godzilla’s return threatens to plunge the country into chaos all over again.
The trailer makes it clear that Godzilla wasn’t completely destroyed last time around, with Japan now mounting another operation to take down the monster for good. Things quickly escalate from there, with enormous destruction, Godzilla unleashing his atomic breath and several shots teasing that something even bigger could be waiting in the wings. The ominous warning that “there is no third time” only adds to the sense that Yamazaki is going all-out for the sequel.
Fans Think They Know What’s Coming
Fans on Reddit were quick to react to the new footage, with some simply eager to see the movie for themselves. “I’m just waiting for tickets to drop already….” one fan wrote.
Others were already speculating about how much the trailer might reveal. “Considering this is a trailer and not a teaser, I’m like 70% sure we will see like maybe a body part of the second monster and more key plot points,” one commenter suggested, before wondering whether the marketing could follow Godzilla Minus One with three trailers in total.
Naturally, there was also plenty of monster speculation. “Hope we get another glimpse at Gravity Anguirus,” one Reddit user joked, referencing the fan nickname that emerged from earlier speculation. Another fan seemed considerably more resigned about where things could be heading, writing, “Time to be disappointed about the inevitable Ghidorah reveal!”
For now, Godzilla Minus Zero is keeping some of its biggest secrets under wraps, leaving fans to pick apart every frame and speculate about what could be coming next. With the Oscar-winning monster finally back in action and plenty of questions still unanswered, anticipation is only likely to grow as the movie moves closer to release.
