Let’s say you buy some Rocky Road, and then while checking out at the cashier, your ice cream gets swapped out with orange sherbet. The worker then tells you, “Oh, it’s still cold dessert!” and still charges you for it. How would you feel? Well, that’s exactly how a SoCal man felt when he ordered a case of beer from Uber Eats, only to receive non-alcoholic beer instead as an acceptable “substitute.” Then, customer service bizarrely blames him for the wrong order.
“[I] tried treating myself with some beer, [then] Uber Eats driver substituted it with non-alcoholic,” the man complained in his post on Reddit. “Uber Eats says it’s my fault for not being more specific.” Now, one could argue that ‘beer’ is still in the product’s name, but considering it doesn’t even contain alcohol, it’s definitely not a good substitute. “That isn’t a match though… best or otherwise,” remarks a commenter. “Right. It’s a completely different product,” agreed another.
It’s More Than Just the Rip-Off Beer, It’s the Disrespect
However, it isn’t just about getting ripped off with an order. It’s the fact that Uber Eats called him out, saying that it was his fault for not being specific about what beer he wanted. I feel like it’s super obvious; if someone orders beer, they want an alcoholic drink, not something that’s just fizzy and tastes somewhat like it. “On top of their ‘replacement’ system being wildly inaccurate, Uber has god awful customer support too,” says a Reddit user. Other people chimed in, sharing their own bad experiences with the delivery company.
“Why does anyone still use the Uber companies?” asks a Reddit user after others were done roasting Uber Eats for being such a dissatisfactory service. “That’s like saying ‘I want a bottle of Josh Cabernet Sauvignon,’ and the driver saying, ‘They didn’t have any Josh Cabernet Sauvignon, here’s a jug of Welch’s Grape Juice.” Whatever the case, customer service should have refunded the customer instead of rudely blaming him for the mess-up. Hopefully, he’ll take on the advice of many Redditors’ comments and charge the company back so it’ll fold and refund him.
