You might have heard of Burger King foot lettuce, but what about rusty screw ice cream, Dreyer’s Mint Chocolate Chip Edition? Well, an unfortunate Safeway customer in East San Francisco Bay was enjoying her mint choco ice cream until one day, when she went to take it out of the freezer and noticed something peculiar. It was stuck to the shelf, and after prying it off, she discovered something very concerning: a long rusty nail.
“At the end of the day, I’m fine and just bummed I can’t have ice cream today,” she groaned, seemingly unbothered. Apparently, she was already “75-80%” through the bucket, so there wasn’t much left to eat anyway. The woman has since contacted both Dreyer’s and Safeway about the issue, so perhaps she’ll get an apology and some compensation, at the very least. Still, finding a long, sharp, metal object in any packaged food you’re eating is rather disturbing, not to mention, potentially hazardous for injuries.
Others Wondered Why There Were Hairs in Her Ice Cream As Well
While the nail discovery was a shocker, other people in her r/mildlyinfuriating post found the hairs in her ice cream to be just as disturbing, if not gross. The Californian was quick to explain that the hairs belonged to one (or more) of her three pet cats. “While I now understand where the hair came from, I still don’t understand why it’s in your ice cream,” remarked a confused commenter. She said that she probably got some accidentally on the scoop from the last time she was eating it. This might explain why she doesn’t seem to be too appalled after finding a sharp metal object in her frozen dessert.
“That’s a serious liability for someone 😳,” said a concerned Redditor. Another chimed in, having worked in food production, they believe that a Safeway worker is likely the culprit. “My guess is someone shot it with a nail gun during transport or the store,” they surmise. It could have been a simple but rather serious accident, considering the possible outcomes, or it could have been a malicious prank. Either way, a nail in any food is dangerous, and it’s a relief the woman discovered it before possibly getting it lodged in her throat.
