A man magnet fishing in Irving, Texas, made a startling discovery when he pulled a handgun from the river beneath a bridge. Posting on Reddit under the username CecilBlight, the angler said the find “made his day,” but his excitement sparked concern among users in the r/magnetfishing community. His video and photos drew thousands of views, with many commenters alarmed not only by the presence of a firearm in a city river, but also by the way he handled the weapon after retrieving it.

In the video he shared, CecilBlight expressed surprise and excitement after discovering a handgun, then began pointing it in various directions. Many viewers criticized the magnet angler for allegedly aiming the firearm at himself, his girlfriend, and elsewhere, describing his handling of the weapon as unsafe and a clear violation of basic gun safety practices.

Many Redditors Were Shocked by How The Man Handled the Gun

“Watch where the barrel is pointing!” one commenter exclaimed. Another wrote, “I flinched when he pointed it at the camera, then gasped when he aimed it at his own face.” A third chimed in, “I have very little experience with firearms, but I do know one rule: never point the business end at anything you don’t intend to shoot.”

CecilBlight denied allegations that he had aimed the pistol at his girlfriend, stating that he had taken care while examining it. However, he did not address claims that he had pointed the gun at his own face while looking down the barrel.

Others debated whether the fisherman should hand the handgun over to the police, noting that it may have been used in a crime. “It may have been dumped after a murder. I doubt guns just randomly end up in water like that,” one Redditor wrote. “It’s a Llama. Those are ditch guns. 100% used in a crime,” another claimed.

This wasn’t the first time CecilBlight had uncovered a handgun while magnet fishing; months earlier, he had pulled up a damaged revolver. Although firearms tend to draw the most attention, the OP regularly shares videos and photos of the many unusual items he retrieves, ranging from grenades to pieces of heavy machinery.
