Campbell defended the post by describing the unidentified shopper as a “prime example of a political ideology treating women like cattle.” She also claimed that “women are worth nothing in Islamic culture,” remarks that drew widespread criticism from thousands of people online.
Shortly before publishing her Facebook post showing a shopper wearing a hijab, Kaylee Campbell shared a brief video criticizing H-E-B for allegedly selling halal meat. In the video, Campbell voiced concern that supermarket chains were accommodating a growing number of Muslims and immigrants. Much of the online reaction, however, appears to express the opposite sentiment.
Kaylee Campbell’s Posts Drew More Criticism Than Support
Rather than echoing her outrage over halal meat and the presence of Muslim shoppers at H-E-B, many people criticized her remarks, as well as her unsolicited photo of a random woman wearing a hijab. “I’d feel safer in a room with her than with you,” one user commented. “Oh no, not a person shopping for groceries,” another joked.
Campbell’s remarks on women’s worth in Islamic culture sparked a similar wave of criticism. “We may not agree with different cultures and religions, but we still need to respect people. Posting a picture like this comes across as hateful,” one commenter wrote. Another added, “Minding your own business is free. And Jesus recommends it, too.”
Several people pointed out that Campbell used the word “spotted” in the caption accompanying the photo, arguing that the phrasing intentionally dehumanized the shopper. “You know that’s not why you took a picture of her. ‘Spotted,’ as if she’s some random animal in a grocery store. She’s a human being,” one person wrote.
On the other hand, a small number of people agreed with Campbell’s concerns, claiming that the Muslim woman made them think of a terrorist or someone who might be carrying explosives. However, the vast majority of highly upvoted comments criticized Campbell and argued that she was in the wrong.
Despite public criticism and shifting public opinion, Kaylee Campbell continues to share “America First” videos and posts. A committed conservative, she remains firm in her convictions and undeterred by the ongoing backlash.
