‘It’s My Child’: Florida Uber Driver Says Passenger Was Banned After Heated Dispute Over Child

An Uber driver in Florida ignited outrage online after sharing details of a tense confrontation with a passenger that allegedly led to the woman being banned from the platform. In a Reddit post titled “STOP asking your driver to do illegal things,” user Chemical_Store1560 described an incident involving a mother who allegedly wanted to put her child at risk by violating the law. After the passenger refused to comply with safety requirements, the driver reported her—an action that thousands of Reddit users agreed was entirely justified.

The passenger, whom Chemical_Store1560 claimed was from a “wealthy gated community,” had attempted to let her child ride on her lap because her group had filled the other seats. After the driver confronted her over it being illegal, she responded, “It’s my child, I’m willing to risk it.”

To prevent her from attempting the same with another Uber ride, the driver reported her directly to Uber after canceling the ride. “I got a notification in [the] app saying that they had suspended her account pending further investigation,” they concluded.

Social Media Users Weigh In

Several commenters condemned the mother’s behavior while also praising the Uber driver for doing the right thing. “As a rider….thank you for being responsible!” wrote an individual. “Great job enforcing the rules,” another commended. “This isn’t about being rude; it’s about safety and legality. You protected yourself, the kid, and set a precedent.”

Others noted that the ride could have resulted in a lawsuit—or even a manslaughter charge—if anything had gone wrong. As one user pointed out, Chemical_Store1560 could also have had their license revoked. “It’s wrong when people expect people providing a service for them to put their livelihood at risk for their own selfishness,” another Redditor sighed.

This isn’t the first time this Florida Uber driver has claimed to have dealt with a “bad mom”. About a month ago, they shared a conversation in which a mother requested an UberX ride instead of an UberTeen ride for her two children. When the driver refused the trip, she accused them of making it a “race thing.”

Chemical_Store1560 has a long history of sharing negative experiences about working for Uber. Ironically, much like the mother in their story, their account was also banned. Their final post was a complaint about the “bad driving habits” of “illegals” whom they claimed deserved deportation; they deleted it shortly after posting.
