A tense encounter between a Massachusetts homeowner and an alleged solicitor reportedly ended with the resident’s front door damaged beyond repair. “I told him to kick rocks and he kicked my door,” Reddit user GeoM56 wrote in a post shared on r/HomeMaintenance. Although the homeowner was primarily seeking advice on how to repair the damage himself, many commenters appeared more concerned about how the incident with the allegedly aggressive solicitor was being handled.
“Should I cut out the entire overlapping section and replace it, or use wood filler to patch the broken area?” GeoM56 asked while seeking advice about his damaged door. Unfortunately for curious readers, he offered no further context about what might have led someone to become angry enough to destroy another person’s entryway—let alone damage their property at all. Even so, hundreds of Redditors urged GeoM56 to involve the police.
Many commenters offered similar advice: file a police report, then contact the homeowner’s insurance company about repairs. “It’s definitely property damage. It might also qualify as assault and/or breaking and entering,” one user agreed.
Another commenter noted that it would also be wise to contact the company that employed the salesman, as they should carry insurance that could help cover the cost of the damages. “Call your local TV news station and tell them about the story,” a third commenter suggested.
Many Noted That the Massachusetts Homeowner’s Door’s Wood Had Already Begun To Rot
Several Reddit users also weighed in on the condition of GeoM56’s door, particularly the apparent deterioration of the wood. “Obviously not justifying the actions of the solicitor, but this definitely looks like the bottom of various parts of the door is rotting. There’s clearly rot in the corner that wasn’t a result of being kicked,” one user pointed out. “Yeah, that wood is rotted and needs replacing regardless,” another agreed.
The rotting wood inside the door frame, as commenters pointed out, would explain how the solicitor was able to break it so easily—unless they put a significant amount of force behind the kick. Either way, that’s certainly one way for a salesman to get their “foot in the door.”
