A beloved grandfather in McAlester, Oklahoma, was hospitalized after experiencing heart-related health issues and was eventually transferred to the intensive care unit (ICU). Despite the seriousness of the situation, he managed to find joy in an unexpected moment: getting his hair washed in the ICU, which he described as an exciting and memorable experience. Thankfully, he has since been discharged and is recovering.
The man in question is Barry Mathews, better known online as BearTheVoice3. A popular content creator and retired truck driver, Barry has previously shared that he was hospitalized due to heart-related issues. However, his ICU video has become one of his most widely viewed recent clips, attracting 218,100 views, 20,000 likes, and more than 500 comments.
The Oklahoma man’s excitement was clear from the very beginning. Just seconds into the clip, he exclaimed, “This is freaking awesome, man!” Laughing throughout the moment, he said he was having a great time in the ICU, while a woman, most likely his wife, joined in the laughter.
Barry was using a no-rinse shampoo cup, a product pre-soaked with shampoo and conditioner. As shown in the clip, nurses massage the cup over the patient’s hair for several minutes, leaving it clean and dry without the need for rinsing. Judging by his reaction, the grandfather was clearly having the time of his life.
Folks relieved when he was discharged
He then reassured his concerned followers that he was doing well. He said, “I don’t want y’all worrying about me. I’m actually having a pretty good time. I don’t feel that bad. It was funny.“
He also shared that his doctor had called him tough, a remark he took as a meaningful compliment, before telling his 1.9 million TikTok followers that he loved them.
In a follow-up clip, the Oklahoma man, who has since been discharged, explained that he had been hospitalized days earlier after his heart rate climbed to between 145 and 160 bpm. At the hospital, doctors gave him medication, but he had to be transferred to the ICU so they could bring his heart rate under control. Although it remains elevated, he said it is no longer in the danger zone.
Social Media Reactions
The video sparked mulitple responses online.
Some viewers shared Barry’s excitement. Referring to the cap, one person wrote, “It’s absolutely the BEST feeling!” Another commented, “You’re getting pampered as you should.”
Others, however, were concerned about him, especially after noticing the monitor behind him showing a heart rate of up to 125 bpm. One viewer wrote, “Honey, that resting heart rate has me worried.” Another added, “That heart rate, Bear…. praying and thinking of you, sir…”
In his update, Barry shared that he planned to see his cardiologist the following week. Hopefully, he will have positive news to share with his audience.
