A recent ICE arrest has gone viral after reportedly taking place inside a gated, private townhome community in California. Although homeowners and residents were able to pressure the ICE agents to leave what they described as a private neighborhood, the incident had already unfolded: federal agents reportedly drove away with two detainees.
The incident occurred at the Oasis Townhomes in Fontana, California. Several ICE agents were seen arresting individuals and placing detainees into their SUVs when nearby residents began recording the encounter and shouting for them to stop what they believed to be unlawful activity. According to witnesses, the agents allegedly failed to present a warrant or provide authorization to enter the gated community.
The video, uploaded by California TikTok user Jessica Rodriguez, also known as @j3ssrod1986, shows several local residents already recording ICE agents and their vehicles in the area. In the footage, the person filming claims that the ICE agents have “no warrants whatsoever” and are allegedly trespassing on private property. At one point, an ICE agent wearing a “police” vest appears to try to push away the woman recording him, but she resists and continues filming.
Sadly, based on the video’s caption—“This is the world we live in right now. They kidnapped two people”—the ICE agents had already made arrests. It remains unclear whom they arrested or whether the individuals were tenants or homeowners within the gated community. However, the agents were able to leave the area without further resistance.
Online users praise the recorders.
While it’s not yet known what happened to the two people arrested by California ICE that day, people online have nevertheless praised the woman and the man recording in the video for resisting ICE’s presence in their gated community.
In other social media platforms, however, a debate ensued about ICE’s jurisdiction. “ICE doesn’t need warrants for immigration arrests. The deportation order is the warrant. That’s in the patriot act that we’ve been complaining about for 24 years,” claims a commenter on X/Twitter.
Nevertheless, some have maintained that California ICE’s actions in the video were unlawful.
