It’s always gratifying to see a community come together for a worthy cause—especially when that cause involves putting an end to someone’s entitled and abusive behavior. Unfortunately, this story isn’t about taking down corrupt politicians, but rather a stubborn dog owner in a Hawaii neighborhood who refused to clean up after his pets. For years, he allowed his dogs to relieve themselves in his neighbor’s yard, as well as in countless other places during their walks. But his neighbors had finally had enough. This time, they weren’t going to let him continue getting away with his inconsiderate and bullying behavior.
The neighbor who endured years of harassment shared additional context about just how frustrating this dog owner had been. “I tried being neighborly at first,” he wrote in his post on r/mildlyinfuriating. Over time, however, he felt compelled to be more direct and confront the owner about cleaning up after his dogs.
Unsurprisingly, the man refused, prompting OP to respond in a more passive-aggressive way: “So I started getting a little more passive-aggressive, leaving poop bags in his mailbox with handwritten notes saying, ‘Just a friendly reminder to pick up your dog’s poop.’”
When that didn’t work, OP chucked the dogs’ bagged poo he picked up from his yard onto the owner’s front porch. Eventually, the local police had to get involved, and the dog owner had been cited twice. But that changed nothing; now, OP has felt like it’s hopeless with this neighbor from hell with his dogs.
Fortunately, his other neighbors had already heard about the troublesome owner—if they hadn’t personally dealt with his dog’s mess on their own property during his walks. And they had no intention of tolerating his negligent harassment without a fight.
“Our neighborhood is pretty tight-knit, so many neighbors help clean it up when they notice it during their walks,” OP explains. “We’ve also recently formed what we’re calling the ‘dog brigade,’ where nearly every dog in the neighborhood now poops exclusively in his yard.” Needless to say, commenters on the Reddit post felt that even this was hardly enough punishment after years of mistreatment from the entitled dog owner.
“Don’t waste bags—get a reusable scooper and use it to toss the poo back into his yard,” one Redditor suggested. Another responded more crudely: “I’d be smearing that all over his house and doorknobs.” A third offered an even more outlandish idea: “Invest in a catapult … send it back at a higher velocity than it arrived.”
Jokes about creative revenge aside, if he still hasn’t learned his lesson by then, additional police citations may be the only effective solution.
