A South Korean man in Arkansas is attracting attention online after allegedly losing his job because his employer believed he was a “North Korean spy.” According to reports, he had been working in IT for about a month when he was questioned about his immigration status.
The former employee, who uses the username Ok-Introduction-194, shared his termination story on r/it. “After he realized I’m not a citizen, he IMMEDIATELY asked me how I feel about Kim Jung Un,” the man recalled. When asked about Kim Jung Un, he said he replied, “Kim’s a fat pig.” Shortly afterward, he was fired, leading many online users to argue that the incident appeared to be blatant discrimination.
Apparently, that response was not enough to satisfy the employer. Soon after, Ok-Introduction-194 lost access to his company account and never regained it. However, he did not seem especially shaken by the job loss. “I didn’t take it that seriously,” he wrote in a comment.
Reddit Users Believe That the Truth Is That the Boss Is Racist
Many Reddit users in the comments section were convinced that the boss must be completely out of his mind or simply too racist to come up with the excuse that his new employee is a spy.
“The confidence with which some people fill in gaps of information is just insane.”
“Get a lawyer for wrongful termination and discrimination.”
One commenter suggested that the employer may have simply been searching for a plausible reason to fire the new IT worker, with the spy accusation serving as a convenient excuse. However, Ok-Introduction-194 noted that he had not even applied for the role. “They came to me,” he wrote.
While his immigration status was the issue that allegedly led to his termination, his story suggests it was not the only factor involved. Ok-Introduction-194 said his boss claimed a “security breach” had occurred shortly after cutting off his account access, before ultimately letting him go.
Other Redditors found the situation highly suspicious, but they won’t miss the chance to look at everything with a sense of humor.
“Seems like something a Korean spy would post.”
In the end, despite losing his job, the ex-employee said he wishes anyone who sees his story gets a “chuckle” out of it all.
