In a rare incident in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a man spotted bundles of cash floating in the ocean and decided to take the risk of pulling them ashore, according to a viral video shared on Reddit. The footage shows him standing near the shoreline, dragging a black package filled with stacks of money out of the water. Another man soon joined in to help bring the bundle fully onto the beach. Later in the clip, several piles of bundled cash can be seen lying on the ground beside a chair, with a police officer standing nearby.
According to the caption shared with the post, the man allegedly discovered millions of dollars in cash floating near the beach, brought it ashore, and immediately contacted law enforcement. Another TikTok video showed the scene from a different angle, with beachgoers casually relaxing nearby as the money sat beside the chair. An ocean rescue vehicle was also parked close to the scene.
Everyone on the Internet Has Their Own Ideas Regarding What They Would Have Done With the Money
As the videos circulated online, social media users quickly began debating what they would have done if they had found themselves in the same situation.
“That’s a lot of cash. I would take my chances. Hide a couple of bundles if I need a lawyer.”
“Lay on the cash like it’s a floatie and gently float your ass up and down the shoreline until the sun sets. Toss it over your shoulder in the darkness and head home. Whoever had that money has no idea where it wound up. The only people you’re hiding from are bystanders with phones.”
Some people speculated that the man may have initially thought the package contained drugs because of how tightly the cash was wrapped, or that it belonged to some dangerous people.
“Let’s be real here, for all the people posting ‘why didn’t he keep it,’ that was money just floating on a Florida beach. That’s 100% cartel money that fell out of a cigarette boat. Nah, I’m good. I’ve seen that movie too many times to know how that will go.”
“Being in Florida, this guy knows exactly the lengths people would go to recover that money. He most definitely wanted to keep it, but his life is definitely worth more to him. I, on the other hand, am snatching that and going on the run.”
Elsewhere in the comments, some users jokingly wondered why they never seem to visit the beach on the days when money washes ashore. Others said they could not understand why anyone would willingly hand over such a discovery to the police. One netizen even argued that donating the cash to charity would have made more sense than turning it in to authorities.
Ultimately, the incident became another example of how differently people respond to unexpected situations involving money, temptation, and risk.
