A politically charged image posted on r/pics is quickly drawing thousands of views. Shared by user MikeDavJ, the photo allegedly shows a Trump sign at a trailer park in Pennsylvania. The square banner features an image of Trump alongside the phrase, “I’d rather vote for a felon than a jack[expletive].” Although the donkey is widely recognized as the symbol of the Democratic Party, the message’s intended meaning in this context is unmistakable.

“I feel this describes the same person,” wrote MikeDavJ, referring to both the felon and the insulting term for a fool. They weren’t alone in that sentiment: hundreds of others weighed in with similarly pointed comments about the sign and the person who posted it.

Pennsylvania Sign Causes Commenters to Express Frustration Over the State of Political Discourse in the U.S.

“American political discourse in a nutshell,” one user remarked, noting that childish insults have repeatedly been used as a tactic by the President. Another commenter directed their criticism at the trailer’s owner, calling them “the whitest of trash.”

For context, reports indicate that Trump was found guilty on 34 felony counts, primarily related to events that occurred before the 2016 election. As a result, he became the “first convicted felon to hold the White House.”

Another commenter weighed in on the sign, writing, “This is why we can never take them seriously. Nor can we truly repair this level of rot in critical thinking.” The commenter went on to blame Ronald Reagan for degrading political discourse in the United States, pointing to his administration’s elimination of the Fairness Doctrine.

On the other hand, a fourth commenter noted, “It’s strange the number of posts/articles I’ve seen over the last few weeks claiming that Trump is starting to lose his base.” One notable example was the viral billboard in Idaho. It featured a quote from LeavingMAGA, an organization founded and supported by former Trump supporters.

That said, one person noted that a major problem with political discourse in America—especially in recent years—is the way many people treat their political affiliation like a sports team. As they put it, there is “no logic, just cheering for arbitrary colors, places they were born, uniforms, and mascots.”
