A student at Carrboro High School in North Carolina described the fear and confusion that unfolded after gunshots were heard near campus, prompting a school lockdown. “I was so confused about everything when we randomly heard gunshots from the woods,” said the teen, who posts on Reddit under the username frrygood. According to Chapelboro, two teenagers were arrested, and no injuries were reported. Still, the incident quickly drew widespread concern online, with thousands of users reacting in shock to the unsettling account.
Frrygood uploaded a photo to r/teenagers that showed them sitting on the floor while their classroom was on lockdown. Once they heard the gunshots outside, they said they immediately ran to the nearest classroom, but were concerned about their missing brother. “God save us all,” they concluded.
Hundreds of people in the post’s comment section expressed shock over the situation at Carrboro High School. “I can’t believe this just happens in America,” one commenter wrote in disbelief. “Oh my God, I’m so sorry. America is so backwards when it comes to gun laws,” another added. Others from abroad, including commenters from the UK and Europe, shared that they had also experienced lockdown drills and heard disturbing stories about student-perpetrated violence.
Needless to say, many people were concerned about the whereabouts of OP’s brother and shared their hopes that he was safe. Although frrygood did not provide any comments or updates on the post about their missing sibling, it’s reasonable to assume he is likely alright, given police reports stating that there were no injuries or casualties.
No Reported Injuries or Casualties at Carrboro High School
Fortunately, no shots were fired on school grounds, according to Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. The teenagers are facing felony and misdemeanor charges related to the illegal possession of a handgun, but neither is accused of firing at any of the high school students.
Although no one was injured, many Reddit users questioned how incidents like this could be prevented. Some called for stricter restrictions on firearms, while others argued in favor of arming school faculty members.
CNN reports that there have already been more than 20 gun violence incidents at schools in the U.S. The issue has persisted for years, and unfortunately, no clear solution has yet been found.
