A homeowner in Ohio is raising concerns after debris from a nearby shooting range began washing onto his property. He shared a photo online showing numerous clay pigeon fragments scattered across his land after being carried downstream from the target practice area. The post struck a nerve with thousands of Reddit users, many of whom found the situation understandably frustrating and urged him to report the issue.

A shooting range opened up about a mile up the creek from me

Reddit user thatspurdyneat shared the photo on r/mildlyinfuriating, explaining that the shooting range has “a bridge with launchers on both sides, [and] there’s a service road at their boundary and they use it for access.” In other words, clay pigeons are being launched and shot over the creek beneath the bridge, with the water carrying the debris directly into his backyard and onto his property. Commenters suggested that the situation may warrant a report to state authorities.

“You can report something like this to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency),” one Redditor suggested, while thousands of others agreed that the incident should also be reported to state authorities. “They’re supposed to take care of messes they make,” another commenter added.

A third agreed, writing, “This looks like intentional dumping into the creek if this much carried a mile. Absolutely needs to be reported.”

Clay Targets Linked to Environmental Pollution, Posing Risks to Ohio Homeowners’ Properties

While one person argues that the shooting range’s skeet targets are technically biodegradable, petroleum-based clay pigeons can still leach harmful chemicals into the soil and water, potentially damaging local plants and wildlife over time.

OP has not clarified whether the fragments found on his property are actually “eco-friendly.” Regardless, the larger issue is the shooting range’s nonconsensual littering on his land and in his creek.

One Redditor agreed, noting that clay pigeons are considered a source of pollution and that those shot down near water could contaminate the creek. They also pointed to the potential impact of microplastics from shotgun shells. Another commenter summed up the concern with a pointed remark: “The amount of people who think all clay pigeons are biodegradable and are seemingly ok with messing up this creek is depressing.”
