Maryland Nurse Scolded After Leaving Her Newborn Alone in Car: ‘She Sees Nothing Wrong and Learned Nothing’

Healthcare work can be demanding and overwhelming, particularly for nurses. However, a woman who appeared to be a nurse in Maryland faced an angry confrontation from bystanders after they allegedly discovered she had left a newborn baby inside her car for at least 30 minutes. Alarmed witnesses confronted her, expressed their outrage, and contacted authorities to report the incident.

The incident occurred in early December in a Baltimore parking lot. A concerned witness recorded video footage showing the alleged nurse being reprimanded and cursed at by an older woman. In the recording, an officer can also be heard advising her not to leave her child unattended in the car for extended periods in the future.

In the video, an older woman can be heard shouting, “You go buy a grape juice! You left your child for 20 to 30 minutes—a newborn! In an unlocked car! With the engine running! Grow the up!” An officer intervened to calm the angry woman while also telling the young nurse, “If you go inside, bring the baby inside.”

The nurse tried to defend herself, saying, “Yeah, I’m sorry. I didn’t think of it like that. I left it on because she was sleeping; I was just getting the paper.” The visibly upset older woman again reminded her not to leave the child unattended, prompting the nurse to respond, “Yeah, I’m so sorry. Have a great one, though. Thank you!” To many viewers, however, the alleged nurse’s response came across as surprisingly casual—if not tinged with irritation.

Online Users Are Concerned About the Infant

It remains unclear whether the alleged nurse was apprehended or reported to the appropriate authorities, such as Child Protective Services (CPS). However, the apparent inaction of the officer at the scene has led some observers to speculate that he may have been a security guard from one of the nearby establishments rather than a police officer. “Well, apparently the cops weren’t needed—that lady handled it herself,” one commenter joked.

Similar incidents have occurred in which responding police officers promptly reported the neglect to CPS. Even so, many people online remain concerned about the newborn’s well-being, particularly after criticizing the nurse’s response. One commenter described it as, “Spoken with the same energy you’d use to apologize for accidentally bumping into someone.”

“She sees nothing wrong and learned nothing. Good luck, kid,” one concerned Reddit user wrote. Others, however, suggested that the healthcare worker may have been dazed or exhausted from her demanding schedule, which could have contributed to her poor judgment. “Not making any excuses, but she’s a new mother and a nurse? She’s probably exhausted. I feel like she’s barely registering the lady rightfully cussing her out,” one commenter said. Another disagreed, arguing, “Being a nurse or even a doctor does not mean you can’t be negligent or a complete idiot about many things.”
