Working as an ice cream server may seem simple, but like any customer-facing job, dealing with rude patrons can quickly make the experience unpleasant. An Illinois ice cream server, who regularly shares videos on TikTok, refused to serve a customer after recording his disrespectful behavior on camera. The footage has since gone viral, sparking a heated debate online.

The clip comes from TikToker @coldstoneinorlandpark, who regularly shares customer interactions, ASMR-style videos, and behind-the-scenes glimpses inside his Illinois-based ice cream parlor. This particular video, however, focuses on a recent encounter with a rude customer. With more than 18.7 million views, 1.3 million likes, and 5,600 comments, it has clearly gone viral.

As the video begins, the server is already in the midst of confronting the rude patron. He says, “You know what? As a matter of fact, I’m not even gonna make it. You can just leave. Get out of here. I’m not serving you. Get out of here. I’m not serving you.” The customer then threatens, “I’m gonna call the manager,” but the worker fires back, “I don’t care. Call him. I am the manager. Get out! I’m not serving you! Screw you.”

The footage then cuts back to an earlier point in the interaction, showing the customer entering the ice cream parlor and providing context for the events leading up to the dispute. After the employee welcomes him, the patron appears to mishear what was said and asks, “So this is a popular store, right?” The server replies that it is “pretty popular,” prompting the customer to ask, “What’s your favorite flavor?” The employee recommends “cake batter,” but the customer does not ask to sample that particular flavor. Instead, he requests a taste of vanilla, and the server gives him a small spoonful to try.

Without missing a beat, the customer then asks, “Can I try the, um, one of these flavors down here?” However, it is unclear which specific flavor he is referring to. The server awkwardly makes an educated guess and asks, “This one?” The customer abruptly replies, “No.” The server suggests another flavor, but the customer curtly responds, “No” again—this time with clear frustration in his voice. The server tries once more: “This one?” Again, the customer says, “No.” At this point, the interaction suddenly takes a turn for the worse.

“Sir, I already told you which one I wanted. I’m trying to be respectful, but I don’t understand why you can’t do a simple test. I’m done. Wow.” the customer says rudely, despite the ice cream server remaining polite and attentive throughout the interaction. The man then orders a medium French vanilla ice cream and asks whether he can receive a discount by providing the employee with his phone number.

However, the ice cream server, having had enough of the customer’s rudeness, fires back, “No, we do use phone numbers, but I’m not going to let you enter yours because you’re being rude.” Flustered, the customer responds, “You what?” The manager then retorts, “Get out of here. I’m not serving you,” leading into the earlier portion of the footage.

As the clip continued to circulate online, social media users quickly took to the comments to share their reactions. While some defended the ice cream server, others questioned whether the footage had been staged. On Reddit, one person wrote, “Why is he filming to start with,” to which another replied, “He always films his work. He really likes his job at Cold Stone. He’s been doing it for years at this point.” A third commenter added, “Whether it’s fake or not if this post can help someone stand up for themselves in customer service facing jobs I’m all for it.” Meanwhile, on TikTok, another user commented, “Let’s normalize not serving rude customers.”

Ultimately, dealing with rude customers is an unfortunate reality of many public-facing roles, and the stress it creates can quickly take a toll. These moments serve as an important reminder that behind every counter is a person doing their best, and that even a small measure of patience and respect can make a meaningful difference.
