A Minnesota tourist was in for a startling surprise when the shower knob in their Airbnb suddenly burst off, sending water blasting out of the wall. The incident reportedly occurred around 1 a.m. as they tried to turn off the shower. Instead, the cold-water dial flew off, unleashing a forceful stream of water. While the guest did not report any injuries, more than ten thousand online users found the chaotic mishap both amusing and frustrating.
“Airbnb says we’re getting a refund, thankfully,” Reddit user XxMrCoolGuyxX wrote, expressing relief. They claimed the shower’s water pressure was terrible, adding that it was “probably because the cold dial was waiting to explode any moment.” Several commenters said they had experienced similar issues, while others criticized the original poster for choosing to pay for an Airbnb in the first place.
Social Media Weighs In
“Do you happen to be staying in a cartoon because that’s the only place I’ve seen this happen,” remarked one person in r/mildlyinfuriating. Another recalled how dangerous it could have been if XxMrCoolGuyxX were standing in front of the explosion. “I’ve had this happen to me before,” wrote the commenter. “The valve flew off so hard it left a chip in the tile. I was in the shower when it happened. Lucky it didn’t hit me.”
Luckily, OP claimed they “had the towel around my waist and the shower cap on and everything” but didn’t report getting hurt. Hazardous shower accidents aside, others berated the Minnesota tourist for using Airbnb. “Stop using AirBNB. It’s a cancer on this world,” snapped one Redditor. “Stay in a hotel. Airbnb ruins neighborhoods,” added another.
Frustration with Airbnb has been a recurring trend for some time, with numerous social media posts highlighting guests’ unpleasant experiences, from being forced to sleep on the floor to being locked indoors. In XxMrCoolGuyxX’s case, however, the shower incident was only “mildly infuriating,” as Airbnb ultimately compensated them.
Still, whether at home, in an Airbnb, or elsewhere, the low water pressure the tenant noticed in the shower was a clear warning sign that something was wrong, according to Big City Plumbing.
