A Texas teacher has gone viral on TikTok after posting a video listing five things she no longer holds her students accountable for in the classroom. The video has garnered over 8 million views and more than 1 million likes. However, many social media users disagree with her approach, accusing her of lowering academic standards. And as you can imagine, several TikTokers decided to share their thoughts, most of them not too friendly towards the educator.
The veteran educator with more than twenty years of teaching experience in Texas shared that she no longer assigns homework to her students. In her view, students who truly understand a lesson do not need additional practice to solidify their knowledge. At the same time, those who struggle will not grasp the material simply by doing more work at home. She added that the practice often leads to frustration for everyone involved — parents who feel obligated to assist, students already facing difficulties, and teachers who rarely have the time to grade every assignment meaningfully.
When addressing the topic of dress codes, she was refreshingly direct. Her priority, she said, is student engagement and classroom presence, not strict adherence to clothing rules.
She also said attendance is another issue she no longer agonizes over. Schools already inform parents through multiple channels when a child is absent. From her perspective, if a student consistently misses class, the problem becomes a family issue — one that extends beyond what a teacher can realistically manage while balancing countless other classroom responsibilities.
Texans React to the Questionable List
On top of all the seemingly questionable things the teacher mentioned, she also said that she doesn’t write students up for cursing, which also raised a few eyebrows. All of these claims caught the attention of many TikTokers, with the majority of them disagreeing with the teacher.

Other TikTokers noted that she is just doing the minimum and not really working toward educating students to make the best.

On the other hand, and to the surprise of many, several other TikTok users agreed with the teacher, with some noting that her approach wasn’t too bad, especially since being a teacher is extremely challenging, and sometimes you need to stop enforcing so many things.

While this topic could be debatable depending on who you ask, it seems that most people believe the teacher should still enforce everything the schools tell them to enforce, as that is the standard of education and should not change so drastically.
