Martial arts is more about self-defense and getting in a workout; it’s about perseverance and self-discipline, especially if you’re trying to achieve a higher rank. One girl attending a martial arts school in Florida for several years had failed to earn her blue uniform, so she was determined to do her best and take the promotion test again after much practice. On the day of the exam, however, she was devastated to discover that she had failed again.

“Her heart was broken, and so was mine, for her,” the dad wrote in a Reddit post about what happened. After working so hard to pass, she had failed her promotion again, and the fact that her birthday was the day after the exam was just salt in the wound. But as the dad took his daughter out of the school and prepared to go home, the mom rushed back into the building. Suddenly, she came back out with surprising news: the daughter had passed the promotion and earned her blue uniform. The martial arts school had just made a mistake.

It turns out that the girl’s “instructor thought the threshold grade for passing the test was higher than it actually was,” the father explained. Right before the family was about to head home, the school’s head realized the error and told the mom that her daughter had actually passed the exam. However, many Redditors in the comment section of the dad’s post felt like something was off. “Mcdojo bs. Mom probably paid the instructor another 100 so daughter could move up in rank,” remarked a user, with hundreds upvoting in agreement. “Camo belt is a huge red flag,” added another.

Reddit Users Believe The Parents Had a Hand in Getting the Martial Arts School to Pass Their Daughter

Even though the dad claims the mother said nothing, and it was the martial arts school staff who realized their mistake, many don’t believe him. Some chimed in, saying that the mom was probably just a Karen who chewed out or somehow bribed the school to get the daughter to pass. Other people pointed out how poorly placed the girl’s belt was in the celebration photo the dad took. “Stop wasting money on that ‘school,'” commented a user.

Whatever the case, at least the girl got the promotion in time for her birthday, even though she had to deal with the martial arts school mistake first. Plenty of people are criticizing the parents for having the daughter attend a “McDojo” in the first place, but at the very least, the young girl has done something she can be proud of.
