Flat earthers might be a little silly, but anti-vaxxers can be a risk, if not a danger, to society. One such anti-vaccine activist, Brian Hooker, reportedly contracted measles while he was in Texas, but then he flew to his home in California regardless. According to The Guardian, he was in Texas doing his rounds, spreading his possibly misinformed thoughts about so-called dangerous vaccination myths.
Myth or fact, he’s free to think in whatever way he pleases. However, potentially spreading a contagious disease to hundreds, if not thousands, of other passengers is certainly something that should concern people. Whether COVID or measles, outbreaks caused by people actively refusing modern medicine are a major problem, especially when they affect innocents trying to remain healthy.
The Traveling Measles Man Has Amassed Backlash Online
The internet was anything but pleased with Hooker’s decision to travel when he possibly knew he had or would catch the measles, let alone his anti-vaccine stance. “Traveled with measles. What a loser,” remarks a Redditor. “Every parent traveling with a baby on that flight should sue tbh,” chimed in a reply. Even if the results of someone catching measles aren’t fatal, the fact that Hooker cared little about possibly spreading his symptoms to others shows his true character. His response to his discovery of contracting should be enough:
“Full disclosure, 18 days after visiting Seminole, Texas, sitting in a measles clinic and being exposed to Doctor Ben with the measles, I got the measles. So cool.”
Hundreds of other Reddit users upvoted in agreement that airlines should consider banning such a person, as they pose a risk of spreading disease. More people added in, expressing their thoughts about how such anti-vaxxers are Trump supporters. “Typhoid MAGA!” remarked a commenter. “This should tell you everything about MAGA,” another person added. “Those who use technology every day but denounce vaccines are just privileged a**holes using vaccines as class warfare,” they continued. “Calling it anything less is disingenuous and appeasement.”
Truly, a man who claims he’s one to support medical science yet condemns vaccines and spreads the measles is not someone who deserves respect. If anyone on the flight with Hooker who has contracted measles should certainly consider legal action, if need be.
